Marshall County Jail Roster
The official public jail roster is the Marshall County Zuercher inmate list. It is linked from the sheriff's site and is the first place to check for a person who may be in Marshall County Jail. The roster is free and no public login was located. It is configured to display mugshot, name, race, sex, arrest date, age rather than full date of birth, and held-for agency.
The roster is not a full criminal-history report. It answers a narrower custody question: whether the jail currently lists the person and what public hold information is attached to that jail entry. Court case numbers, complaints, filings, dispositions, and fines belong in Iowa Courts Online. Sentenced state-prison records belong in Iowa Offender Search. Federal and immigration records use BOP, USMS, or ICE channels.
Use the Marshall County Inmate Roster
A search works best when it starts broad. The portal can filter by name, race, sex, cell block, arrest date, held-for agency, in-custody date, and release date. The public configuration starts from current-custody logic and limits the in-custody date range to the recent window. Older releases may fall away from the normal view, which is why records requests and court searches matter.
- Open the Marshall County inmate list and search the name as shown on court or booking paperwork.
- Use race or sex only to narrow common names. The dropdown values come from the portal's official configuration.
- Use arrest date or held-for agency when the person was arrested by another agency or held on an out-of-county matter.
- Read the public row for age, arrest date, agency, hold reasons, and any visible release-date field.
- Call Marshall County Jail at 641-754-6380 if the roster result is unclear, recent, or missing.
Marshall County Roster Search Fields
The search-field table below comes from the public Zuercher roster configuration captured in the research. Some dropdowns are long and may change, so the live portal is still the controlling source. The public page does not explain exact name-matching rules, wildcard support, or how soon a new booking appears after intake.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Text | Optional | Search by inmate name; exact matching rules were not posted. |
| Race | Dropdown | Optional | Includes American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Unknown, and White. |
| Sex | Dropdown | Optional | Female, Male, or Unknown. |
| Cell Block | Dropdown | Optional | Includes Booking, Female General, Female Max, Male General, Male Max, Minimum Security North/South, Special Status, Trustee Dorm, AIP, and Out of County. |
| Arrest Date | Date picker | Optional | The portal controls the date format. |
| Held For Agency | Dropdown | Optional | Includes Marshall County, DOC Iowa, Federal, ICE/Immigration, and many local or out-of-county agencies. |
| In Custody | Date/status | Optional | Default uses current date; configuration limits the date range to seven days prior. |
Marshall County Inmate Profile Fields
Public inmate records in Marshall County show enough to identify a jail record, but they do not replace court records or a sheriff report copy. The roster configuration suppresses normal public juvenile display and uses age instead of a full date of birth. Sample rows showed public hold reasons, which may include charge, warrant, bond, judge, or setter-style text.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Mugshot | Booking-photo image when published in the roster result. |
| Name | The public name attached to the jail record. |
| Race and sex | Demographic fields used by the roster search and public row. |
| Age | Age is shown because the portal's DOB format is age. |
| Arrest date | The arrest or booking date shown in the public roster. |
| Held-for agency | The agency connected to the custody hold. |
| Hold reasons | Public hold text when configured and available. |
| Cell block | A housing field that may be blank or limited in public results. |
Marshall County Inmate Access Channels
The online roster is the fastest route, but it is not the only route. The jail can answer immediate custody questions by phone. The sheriff's records division handles report-copy requests by mail. Iowa Courts Online handles the court case once charges are filed. VINELink can provide release or transfer notifications when started from the inmate record while the person remains in custody.
| Need | Best channel | Local detail |
|---|---|---|
| Current jail custody | Zuercher inmate list | Public roster, no login located. |
| Immediate jail question | Jail phone | 641-754-6380. |
| Deputy message or dispatch | Communications center | 641-754-5725. |
| Older report copy | Sheriff Records by mail | Mail request, SASE, and $5 to ATTN: Records. |
| Court charge record | Iowa Courts Online | Search once a complaint or case is filed. |
| Release notice | Iowa VINELink | Linked from the sheriff FAQ for notification. |
Marshalltown's P3 Tips notice is a different public-safety tool. It lets people submit anonymous crime tips by app or by texting the Marshall64 keyword, but the official notice did not advertise inmate lookup, warrant lookup, or mugshot search. For inmate records, keep the roster, jail phone, clerk, DOC, BOP, ICE, and VINELink paths separate so a tip channel is not mistaken for a custody database.
Marshall County Jail Facility
Marshall County Jail is the only local detention facility identified in official county sources. The sheriff's jail page calls it a modern direct-supervision facility with 182 beds. It opened in July 2000 at the former Marshall County Care Facility site. People arrested by Marshalltown Police or other local agencies route into this county jail when accepted for local custody.

Booking Process in Marshall County
Marshall County did not publish a full booking manual in the captured official sources. The known path is still clear. Arresting agencies can include the sheriff, Marshalltown Police, Iowa State Patrol, nearby police departments, DOC, federal agencies, ICE, and other agencies shown in the roster's held-for-agency list. Once accepted into jail custody, the roster may show the person's public booking fields.
Iowa Code Chapter 804 controls arrest and disposition of prisoners. Section 804.21 addresses initial appearance after arrest by warrant, and the chapter also covers warrantless arrest appearance before a magistrate without unnecessary delay. Booking is separate from charging. The court record opens after a complaint or case is filed, so a jail hold reason is not the same as a final conviction.
Note: The sheriff FAQ says staff will not pass messages to inmates; writing a letter is the recommended route.
Marshall County Visitation Rules
The jail uses video visitation. Contact visitation is not allowed for on-site visits, and remote video is available through CIDNET. Visitors must be authorized before a visit, and potential visitors first provide a copy of state-issued photo ID through CIDNET. Approval notification can take three to five business days.
| Rule | Detail | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Visit type | On-site video only; no contact visits | Sheriff jail page |
| Remote video | CIDNET with data purchase by outside parties | Sheriff jail page |
| Approval | Photo ID through CIDNET; response may take 3-5 business days | Sheriff jail page |
| Scheduling | At least 24 hours in advance, by jail phone or CIDNET | Sheriff jail page |

| Length | Maximum 30 minutes | Sheriff jail page |
| Minors | Under 16 must be close family with proof and a parent or legal guardian | Sheriff jail page |
County, State, Federal Inmates
When a jail roster search fails, the next step depends on custody type. The Iowa Offender Search page is for state prison and community-supervision records. The official DOC form includes name, offender number, sex, location, offense, county of commitment, and name-search mode. It is updated weekly and carries a no-warranty disclaimer.
| Custody | Where to Look | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pretrial or local jail sentence | Marshall County roster | Person is housed in the county jail. |
| State prison sentence | Iowa Offender Search | DOC tracks sentenced prisoners and supervision records. |
| Sentenced federal inmate | BOP inmate locator | BOP covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. |
| Immigration custody | ICE locator | ICE covers current ICE custody and CBP custody after more than 48 hours. |
The project image set includes the Iowa Offender Search page from the official DOC source. The DOC search form is a statewide tool, not a Marshall County jail roster.
